THE TEN KINDS OF BRAVERY YOU CAN PULL OFF

(Last Updated On: May 16, 2019)

To lose oneself in the face of adversities is probably one of the most challenging if not frightening situations any of us can stumble upon. It can incite a mix of emotions—fear, pain, and anger—that can become remarkably intense or even leave you in a state of despair. Inevitably, you will question the purpose of relationships developed for years only to be charred, doubt the passions and dreams that once served as your inspirations, and belittle yourself as if your existence have no purpose at all.

The past months has been unerringly like this for me. It has been so extremely difficult that at times breathing became even arduous. Many times, I have asked myself if I have the courage to suffer whilst choosing to act, to follow my heart and dismiss whatever trick my mind does to me, and to persevere through the hardships. Of course, the alternatives seem to be easier said than done.

I have wallowed. Actually, I still do whenever I get flashbacks. It’s never really easy to recover. To forget. To move forward. But I guess I will have to eventually. To heal. To grow. To live. Because, we all have to be brave enough to go through all that life throws at us. So, if any of you are in a similar situation, I hope that when we feel weak and hopeless, we can be reminded of the many kinds of bravery we can pull off.

  1. Bravery is standing up for what is right. So that you don’t go astray from your values and principles. So that you don’t lose your identity.
  2. Bravery is knowing when to continue the fight because it is a battle you must win. But it is also about knowing when to quit because it is a battle you are not meant to continue fighting for.
  3. Bravery is choosing to believe in the inconvenient truth more than saving your face in light of appeasing with the perception people have about you. It is choosing to prioritize peace of mind and a restful soul more than being right and getting revenge.
  4. Bravery doesn’t always have to be grand. Sometimes it is the act of quietly departing from a life that feeds from competitive hustling and bustling in order to live a life that is more worthwhile and purposeful.
  5. Bravery is about keeping relationships that nurtures and letting go of those that harms.
  6. Bravery is saying “NO” when you mean it and when you need to.
  7. Bravery is embracing the unknown whilst shaking off the butterflies in your stomach, and the doubts that whispers on your ears.
  8. Bravery is finding the courage to move forward against all odds. It is about getting up and showing up no matter what.
  9. Bravery is deciding to get out of your comfort zone to discover more about yourself, and to become a better version of yourself. It is about expanding your horizon whilst letting go of the familiar.
  10. Bravery is allowing yourself to feel distraught so that you can heal, to feel disappointed so you become fulfilled, to fail so that you can become successful.
