For seventeen years, Detective Olivia Benson effortlessly made holster and a police officer badge sexier, and a dress while undercover even more captivating. But most importantly, she represented women as confident and brave, passionate and committed, ambitious but patient and caring human beings.
Law & Order-SVU became my weekday after-work habit. It wasn’t a guilty pleasure, not at all. On the contrary, it was one of those shows that gave me the opportunity to consciously reflect on real life scenarios on a daily basis. I’ve shared below some of those reflections:
You can become a trend-setter by wearing whatever suits your character, and by committing to that character with well founded beliefs and values.
They say that life is 10 percent what happens to us and 90 percent how we handle it. We cannot simply blame someone or an event for whatever transpires in our life. As we progress in life, it is important that we become a survivor not a victim, a fighter not a quitter, and selfless not selfish.
Friendship is a choice and a commitment. You have the choice to choose, and it is important that you consciously decide to surround yourself with the people you want to be like.
I feel blessed that I am with friends who serve as my role models and who constantly challenge me in positive way. My entrepreneur friend who I will not hesitate to enlist in the world’s self-made women showed me that success is not achieved overnight, but through a 24/7 habit of passion and hard work. My working-mom friend who deserves a superwoman award, showed me that love transcends all trends and boundaries. I would want to be as interesting, caring and accepting as they are!
